The innovative research field for your use case

The challenge

Fast and flexible logistics that can cope with the diverse challenges of the present is of central importance for the security of supply of people and industries. On the way to fully flexible logistics, autonomous systems are essential. However, for companies in particular, the agile development of these systems (on an industrial scale) is associated with major challenges. For example, the technologies available on the market are hardly affordable for companies. In addition, the development of these systems is particularly time-consuming and cost-intensive. In addition, there is often a lack of personnel with the necessary expertise.

The Key  - PACE Lab

The PACE Lab, located at Fraunhofer-IML, offers a worldwide unique research environment of highly accurate positioning and industrial environment. The word PACE stands for Positioning Accuracy Communication Evaluation. The PACE Lab offers the optimal experimental environment for novel developments in an industrial context on approximately 1000 square meters. In addition to the agile development of autonomous systems, the Lab offers companies from the industrial sector a reference system for testing sensor technology, localization systems, communication systems, mobile robots and drones as well as human-technology interactions.

The newest technologies for innovative research

Motion Capturing, Laser projection, Communication

The PACE Lab has a high-precision motion capturing system that enables object detection in the submillimeter range and covers the entire area of two research halls. In addition, a laser projection system is used, which enables visualization of the measurement data and can be used for interaction with the employees (AR). In addition, WLAN 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, Zigbee-capable access points and a 5G base station are used for communication. Software Defined Radio (SDR) can be used to determine the transmitting and receiving power in the radio range.
