Our experts developed a powerful algorithm that efficiently and accurately calculates the optimal shipping packaging. The algorithm takes into account all necessary functionalities and requirements, including:
- Variable range of packaging materials: Flexible for different cardboard boxes and bags.
- Optional use of the original box: For additional protection and easy handling.
- Packaging of multi-component articles: Careful consideration of articles consisting of several parts.
- Compliance with upper weight and volume limits: Ensuring that the packaging complies with the specified maximum values.
- Reduction of article splits: Minimization of the division of articles into several packages.
- Taring of package weights: Precise weight recording for optimum shipping preparation.
Efficient implementation and integration
The implementation of the algorithm was successfully integrated into the project partner's ERP system. Thanks to an agile and iterative approach, accompanied by workshops, the algorithm was easily integrated into the existing infrastructure. In over 5% of shipments, the new packing algorithm led to better utilization of packaging materials and a significant reduction in shipping and packaging costs. This optimization has also increased customer satisfaction in the shipping process.
The project partner, a leading logistics service provider in the e-commerce sector with several million orders processed annually, is one of the top ten in the industry and specializes in B2C relationships.
