At Fraunhofer IML, we develop digital and sustainable solutions for the central questions of logistics.

Today, logistics is the leading industry and developer of technological innovations. Digital platforms, data security, and open-source software, artificial intelligence, autonomous robots and blockchain, digital value creation, resilience, smart finance, sustainability, and compliance: these are just some of our topics. They show how diverse logistics is. Our aim is to sensibly move people and things – economically, ecologically, and socially meaningful. Social challenges such as climate protection and energy efficiency, demographic change and health, prosperity and security are important drivers of our work. We rely on the collaborative interaction between science and industry. Because together, more can be achieved. Our focus is always on real and practical problems. We develop concrete applications and solutions that are then “launched” in companies – whether corporation, medium-sized business, or start-up.

Logistics is a high-tech industry, and therefore we are looking for tech enthusiasts who (to name just a few examples) ...

• develop transport robots and build virtual warehouse worlds,
• develop concepts for e-mobility and master plans for energy savings,
• love coding challenges and engage in open-source communities,
• want to make artificial intelligence even smarter and simulations even more realistic

– without forgetting about people.

Our topics and tasks offer students, graduates, and young professionals with a background in both STEM and other fields like management, psychology, geography, or marketing plenty of opportunities to test their abilities. Organizational talents and those at home in Makerspaces are welcome in our administration and workshop.

You can explore various departments, contribute your know-how, develop yourself further, and broaden your knowledge. Whether on-site at the institute or in the home office: You are part of a diverse, interdisciplinary team, with newbies and experienced veterans, where everyone communicates informally and on an equal footing. In agile projects, you can also set your own goals and achieve them within the team and on your own responsibility.

You work on projects with renowned researchers from all over the world as well as with representatives from international corporations and leading medium-sized companies. At conferences and congresses, you can further expand your network. You will benefit from these contacts for a lifetime – personally and professionally.

Do you want to take on leadership responsibilities? We promote qualified scientific staff to take on team leadership as well as to pursue a career path to department leadership. We also follow the concept of "shared leadership." There are already examples of this at our institute.

Do you want to advance professionally? As a ”Senior Scientist” and subsequently as a ”Chief Scientist,” you have the opportunity to develop new research fields or research strategies. Currently, our ”Senior Scientists” are dealing with topics like open source, artificial intelligence, and human-technology interaction. Our ”Chief Scientist” is responsible for strategy development in the area of digital infrastructure, platform economy, and digital continuum.
