Product Compliance with GreenComplAI

GreenComplAI is a research project aimed at increasing product compliance in value creation networks. The goal is to develop an AI and blockchain-based solution for seamless verification and plausibility checks of products along the supply chain. Companies gain a secure basis for their own sustainability reporting and supply chain management. The platform supports sustainability transformation and offers innovative approaches to product stewardship.

How can product compliance be verified along complex value networks in a technology-supported and audit-proof manner? GreenComplAI addresses this challenge with an AI and blockchain solution that detects data manipulation, collects data to fulfill corporate due diligence obligations, and supports sustainability transformation.

The platform helps companies efficiently meet CSRD and ESPR requirements and create transparency and trust in the validity of data.

Project goal: Product compliance through technology

GreenComplAI aims to ensure product compliance from raw materials to consumers. The solution enables the traceability of goods and products, automated plausibility checks, and the detection of data manipulation. Companies can prove when they became aware of due diligence violations and demonstrate their responsibility to regulatory authorities. Transparency in supply chain management is increased and sustainability transformation is supported. GreenComplAI offers a central input mask for sustainability data, an AI model for analysis and storage on a product passport, and interfaces for integration into ERP systems.

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) are increasing the requirements for sustainability reporting. GreenComplAI helps companies implement these regulatory requirements efficiently and digitally. The platform reduces administrative effort and enables reliable documentation and validation of ESG data along the entire supply chain.

The solution: GreenComplAI for product compliance

GreenComplAI combines AI and blockchain technology for secure and transparent verification. The application offers:

  • Automated plausibility checks for sustainability reporting
  • Detection of data manipulation and anomalies in supply chain management
  • Support for product stewardship and strategic decisions
  • Centralized collection and analysis of sustainability data
  • Storage of data in a product passport, optionally on a blockchain
  • Support for managing digital product passports (DPP service)
  • Integration into ERP systems via GreenComplAI API
  • Daily intervention options for sustainability transformation

Technological approach:

Validity checks are performed in several stages: A formal plausibility check verifies data types and mandatory fields, while AI-supported analyses such as random forest and RODD methods detect outliers and manipulations. Indicator-specific checks compare current values with historical company data. External benchmarking enables the verification of supplier data, for example on recycling rates or hazardous waste. Blockchain ensures the immutability and traceability of all data.

Open source for transparency:

GreenComplAI is released as open source under Apache 2.0. Companies can use the software free of charge, participate as validation or development partners, and become part of the GreenComplAI community.

Use case: Product compliance in practice

With GreenComplAI, companies can record resource inflows and outflows, balance material flows, and manage digital product passports. The AI detects deviations and supports sustainability transformation. The solution was developed in collaboration with our partners Accuride Wheels, EJOT, and thyssenkrupp and ensures greater transparency and trust throughout the entire supply chain.

SKALA (funding number 45KI26A011) bundles scalable AI and blockchain building blocks, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS). The goal is to create a federated, decentralized ecosystem for secure process automation in production, logistics, and SCM. As a subproject in the focus area “Product Compliance in Value Creation Networks,” GreenComplAI provides the solution for seamless traceability and plausibility checks of products along the supply chain.
