Efficient transports whether by a fork lift, by an automated guided transport system or by automatic conveyor systems need the adequate control technology. Openness toward innovations enables modification and further development of concepts and technologies and ensures sustainability of systems.

The department «Automation and Embedded Systems» designs and realizes solutions in the industrial field. With the participation in research projects we push innovations. Recent developments and technologies acquired in research projects are transfered to business appliance. Industrial research activities act as a bridge to the end user.

LogiMat 2019

This year's trade fair LogiMAT 2019 took place from 19.-21.02.2019 and the department Automation and Embedded Systems of the Fraunhofer IML was again represented with current research results.

The department presented several research projects.

As part of the SafeLog research project, a free-navigating vehicle was presented, which independently calculates a route to a destination and bypasses obstacles. Through various sensors and actuators the vehicle is able to communicate with its environment and especially with the human.

In addition, the research project L4MS was shown. In the course of the Rhenus Lab, an innovative way of monitoring the level of waste in containers was presented.



DIH² is a network of 26 DIHs, with a target to reach over 170 DIHs. The sole aim of the network is to spark incremental (cut 50% cost of advance robotics solutions, double the growth of robotics market) and disruptive (maximum productivity & optimum agility) innovations in over 300,000 Manufacturing SMEs and Mid-Caps. Bitkom netz:regeln 2018

Jana Jost, employee of the Automation and Embedded Systems department, visited the Bitkom on 28.11.2018. As part of the conference "netz:regeln 2018 - smart, smarter, autonomous: Socio-political and economic issues of automated and autonomous decisions", Jana Jost presented on behalf of the Fraunhofer IML topics on decentralized organization, social systems, artificial intelligence and social networked industry.

electronica 2018

At the electronica (November 13th to 16th 2018), the ePaper display from EMILI was also advertised in friendly cooperation with the ADKOM Elektronik GmbH.

In addition to 3100 exhibitors from 50 countries, 80000 visitors from more than 80 countries were also present. The electronica informed this time around the topics automotive, embedded, medical electronics and wireless.


IROS 2018 Madrid- SafeLog

The International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) is one of the most important robotics conferences in the world.
