Potentials of Industry 4.0 for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
The challenge for a company is to keep track of the newest Industry 4.0 technologies and methods. This applies in particular to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) without any dedicated research department.
The agiplan GmbH, the Zenit GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics announced to combine their expertise and know-how in a joint project team that carries out a study named “Potentials of Industry 4.0 for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises”. The first part of the joint study will give an overview of the ongoing state-funded research activities on Industry 4.0 in Germany and their addressed technologies.
The second part of the study addresses the question if SME will be disadvantaged by Industry 4.0 technology and how to help them to keep up with the technological development.
Therefore specific needs and problems of SME will be summarized in each field of application and matched with Industry 4.0 technologies to give recommendations for Politics, Industry and Science.
The study is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and is expected to be published by the end of April 2015.
