Efficient load detection by using a PMD camera

The objective of this project aided by the Association of Industrial Research Group “Otto von Guericke” (AiF, registered association) is the development of new procedures and algorithms for the  verification of load conditions of a Euro Pallet. In doing so, packing positions already known from the automatic palletizing are synchronized with a bas-relief, which is detected by a PMD camera. In comparison to existing systems a higher efficiency can be reached, whereat the charges for hard- and software remain low.

Benefits from the user’s point: Both the verification of the load condition and afterwards the automated depalletizing by means of industrial robots can be conducted.

The research project 3D contour check is a cooperation between the Chair of Computer Graphics of the department for Informatics of the TU Dortmund and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML.
